The Music Department at Temple Christian College offer both in-class and extra-curricular opportunities. Students train in the art of performance and composition that are both rigorous and rewarding, with pathways available that lead to tertiary study for those wishing to pursue music post high school.
Years 7 & 8
In Years 7 and 8 students experience a semester of Music, in which they are exposed to many practical opportunities to help hone their skills as budding musicians. These opportunities help students to build confidence, learn to work well with others and develop discipline as their musical potential is realised. Year 7s participate in our Concert Band, or have the option to participate in our Strings Program. Both programs provide instrument lessons with a specialist teacher, while our Year 8s learn the basics of playing acoustic guitar, keyboard and the drum kit, leading towards class ensemble opportunities.
Years 9 & 10
Music is an elective subject from Years 9 -12. In Years 9 & 10, students develop their performance, compositional and musical skills and understanding, paving the way for more specialised Music courses at SACE Stage 1 and 2. Students can choose either the Music Experience (Year 11) and Music Explorations (Year 12) courses, and/or the Music Advanced (Year 11) and Music Studies (Year 12) courses.
From Years 9 – 12, Music Technology is offered as an elective subject. Students learn aspects of Live Sound and Recording using Pro tools software. They are able to complete a Certificate II qualification by the end of Year 10, a Certificate III qualification in Year 11 and a SACE Stage 2 option in Year 12.
